USA/Canada Trade War Update – US tariffs paused on qualifying goods from Canada and Mexico

US President Donald Trump signed an order today, postponing tariffs for goods (of Canada or Mexico origin) meeting free trade rules of origin, until April 2nd.

In order to receive the exemption from the tariff, imported goods must meet the Rules of Origin under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) (referred to as CUSMA in Canada and T-MEC in Mexico) found here and be covered by a valid Certificate of Origin.

More information will be provided as it becomes available, including a response from the Canadian Government.  For more information on USMCA/CUSMA please see our site here.

For more information, please call Brian Rowe, Director – Customs Compliance & Regulatory Affairs at (905) 882-4880, ext. 1213.
