ILA and USMX Announce Tentative Agreement on New Six-Year Master Contract

ILA and USMX Announce Tentative Agreement on New Six-Year Master Contract - Universal Logistics Trade Alerts - January 9 2025

Toronto, January 9, 2025

The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) reached a tentative agreement on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 8th, on all terms of a new six-year Master Agreement, thus avoiding the possibility of a new port strike at the US Gulf Coast and East Coast port terminals from Maine to Texas beginning January 15, 2025.

To review, in October 2024, the ILA shut down activities at the aforementioned port terminals for three days, with their primary concern being wages and increased automation.  Subsequent to this, the ILA and USMX reached a tentative deal on wages and extended their existing contract through January 15, 2025, to provide time to renegotiate a new contract covering all outstanding issues and allow the ports to re-establish operations.

In a joint statement, the two sides agreed to continue operating under the current contract until the union can meet with its full Wage Scale Committee and schedule a ratification vote.  USMX members can ratify the terms of the final agreement.
