The BC Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) has been advised that the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Ship and Dock Foremen Local 514 (ILWU local 514) members have voted to reject the industry’s revised comprehensive offer. As of the afternoon of June 15th, neither party issued 72-hour notice of a strike or lockout, nor have there been any labour disruptions. Regular operations at British Columbia’s ports continue uninterrupted.
The Canada Industrial Relations Board has scheduled a hearing beginning on July 2nd to adjudicate the BCMEA’s complaint filed May 10th against ILWU Local 514’s conduct at the bargaining table. The ILWU Local 514 represent ship and dock foremen working in the maritime industry, who are responsible for overseeing operations related to loading and unloading cargo, managing dockworkers, and ensuring safety protocols.
