Major delays at Shanghai port

Port congestion at Shanghai’s Yangshan Port is causing massive delays. It is unclear when the port will return to normal as the port operators are unsure how to address a “perfect storm of problems”, including bad weather, a container shortage and rampant overbooking by carriers (as a result of the new vessel sharing alliances).

Some carriers are responding by re-routing ships, and others are waiting outside the port for conditions to improve.

The situation is anticipated to normalize only around the end of May as announced by Port Authorities in Shanghai.

We will continue to monitor this situation closely and advise accordingly.

If you have any questions concerning shipments booked with Universal Logistics and how they may be impacted by the above, please call (905) 882-4880, ext. 308 – Debbie McGuire, Manager – Freight Solutions.
